Chewy Maple Pecan Blondies - featured image

These chewy, dense blondies feature real maple syrup, toasted pecans, and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt for a perfect balance of sweet and salty comfort food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup (Grade A Amber or Dark)
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups pecan halves, toasted
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. Spread pecan halves on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden. Let cool completely, then chop roughly.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the maple syrup and vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed just until combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Gently fold in the toasted pecans.
  8. Spread batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes. The edges should be golden and the center should just barely set (toothpick should come out with moist crumbs).
  9. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  10. Let cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares.

Notes

Do not overbake; the center should still look slightly soft when removed from the oven as it continues to cook in the pan. Use real maple syrup, not pancake syrup. Toasting the pecans enhances their flavor. For gluten-free, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend, though texture may be more crumbly.
