Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ยฝ teaspoon baking soda
  • ยฝ teaspoon salt
  • ยฝ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ยพ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk (or whole milk with 1 tablespoon lemon juice, left to sit 5 minutes)
  • 1ยฝ cups fresh peaches, peeled and diced (or thawed frozen peaches, drained well)
  • 8 ounces (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • ยผ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ยฝ cup (60g) chopped pecans
  • ยผ cup (50g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • ยผ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray and lightly dust with flour.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together chopped pecans, brown sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Using a hand mixer, beat together softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Scrape down the sides as needed.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
  5. In another large bowl, beat softened butter with granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract until smooth.
  7. Add dry ingredients in three parts, alternating with buttermilk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix gently after each addition until just combined.
  8. Gently fold in diced peaches using a rubber spatula.
  9. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Dollop half the cream cheese mixture over the batter in spoonfuls and swirl gently with a knife or skewer.
  10. Repeat with remaining batter and cream cheese mixture, swirling again to create ribbons.
  11. Sprinkle the pecan crumble topping evenly over the loaf.
  12. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Tent with foil if topping browns too fast after 40 minutes.
  13. Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

If peaches are very juicy, pat dry before folding in to prevent soggy batter. Tent with foil if pecan topping browns too quickly. Do not overmix batter to avoid tough bread. Room temperature ingredients blend better. For gluten-free, use 1-to-1 gluten-free baking mix. For dairy-free, substitute cream cheese and buttermilk with plant-based alternatives.
