A quick and festive dessert featuring strawberries dipped in layers of red, white, and blue chocolate, perfect for summer celebrations like the Fourth of July.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450 g) fresh strawberries, medium to large size, washed and thoroughly dried
  • 8 oz (225 g) white chocolate chips or melting wafers
  • 4 oz (115 g) red candy melts or white chocolate tinted with red gel food coloring
  • 4 oz (115 g) blue candy melts or white chocolate tinted with blue gel food coloring
  • 1/4 cup red, white, and blue sprinkles (optional)
  • Wax paper or parchment paper for setting the strawberries

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries gently and pat completely dry with paper towels. Leave the green stems on as handles for dipping. (Time: 10 minutes)
  2. Place 8 oz (225 g) white chocolate chips or wafers in a heatproof bowl. Using a double boiler or microwave in 20-second intervals, stir frequently until smooth. (Time: 5-7 minutes)
  3. Holding a strawberry by the stem or toothpick, dip it fully into the melted white chocolate, letting excess drip off. Place on wax paper-lined baking sheet. (Time: 10 minutes)
  4. Pop the dipped strawberries in the fridge for 10-15 minutes until the white chocolate firms up.
  5. Repeat the melting process for the red candy melts in a separate bowl. If using white chocolate tinted red, mix in gel food coloring carefully to avoid lumps. (Time: 5-7 minutes)
  6. Drizzle red chocolate over the white-coated strawberries using a spoon or piping bag in thin lines, or dip the bottom half for a bold look. (Time: 10 minutes)
  7. Refrigerate the strawberries for another 10 minutes to set the red layer.
  8. Melt the blue candy melts following the same process. (Time: 5-7 minutes)
  9. Use a small spoon or piping bag to add blue dots, stripes, or zigzags over the red and white. While still wet, sprinkle with red, white, and blue sprinkles for festive crunch. (Time: 10 minutes)
  10. Place the strawberries back in the fridge for 15-20 minutes until all chocolate layers are completely set and firm.

Notes

Keep strawberries completely dry to prevent chocolate from seizing. Use quality chocolate like Ghirardelli for smooth melting. Let each chocolate layer fully set before adding the next to avoid color bleeding. Reheat chocolate gently if it thickens during dipping. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days and avoid stacking to prevent smudging.
