A refreshing and flavorful party punch combining sweet watermelon, smoky mezcal, and a spicy kick from jalapeños and chili powder. Perfect for summer gatherings and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups (900g) fresh watermelon, cubed
  • 1 ½ cups (360 ml) silver tequila
  • ½ cup (120 ml) mezcal
  • ½ cup (120 ml) fresh lime juice (about 45 limes)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) triple sec or orange liqueur
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) simple syrup
  • 12 fresh jalapeños, thinly sliced (seeds optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) ginger beer
  • Sea salt (coarse) for rimming
  • Watermelon wedges or balls (for garnish)
  • Fresh lime wedges (for garnish)
  • Extra jalapeño slices (for garnish)
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Remove the rind and cut 6 cups (900g) of watermelon into chunks. Blend in a high-powered blender until smooth, about 1-2 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh sieve if a smoother texture is preferred. Set aside.
  2. In a large punch bowl, combine 1 ½ cups (360 ml) silver tequila, ½ cup (120 ml) mezcal, ½ cup (120 ml) fresh lime juice, ½ cup (120 ml) triple sec, and ¼ cup (60 ml) simple syrup. Stir gently to mix.
  3. Pour the strained watermelon juice into the punch bowl and stir to combine evenly.
  4. Add 1-2 thinly sliced jalapeños to the bowl for the firecracker kick. Adjust amount based on heat preference. Stir in 1 cup (240 ml) ginger beer just before serving to keep fizz lively.
  5. Mix 1 tablespoon chili powder and sea salt on a small plate. Rub lime wedges along the rims of serving glasses, then dip into the chili-salt mix to coat evenly.
  6. Ladle punch into prepared glasses over ice. Garnish with watermelon wedges, lime slices, jalapeño slices, and fresh mint if desired. Optionally, add a few ice cubes directly to the punch bowl to keep cool without diluting too fast.
  7. Enjoy responsibly, savoring the sweet, smoky, spicy, and tart flavors.

Notes

[‘Use ripe watermelon for the sweetest flavor.’, ‘Adjust simple syrup to balance sweetness depending on watermelon ripeness.’, ‘Remove jalapeño seeds and membranes for milder heat; use gloves when handling jalapeños.’, ‘Add ginger beer just before serving to preserve fizz.’, ‘Use large ice cubes in punch bowl to slow dilution.’, ‘Mezcal can be substituted with extra tequila or smoky whiskey.’, ‘For non-alcoholic version, replace tequila and mezcal with sparkling water or lemon-lime soda and extra ginger beer.’, ‘Frozen watermelon can be used when fresh is unavailable; thaw slightly before blending.’, ‘Rim glasses with chili powder and sea salt for added spice and flavor.’]
