A quick, easy, and delicious homemade version of the popular Starbucks drink, featuring strong dark roast coffee, brown sugar, and creamy oat milk, shaken to create a velvety foam.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) strong dark roast coffee
  • 12 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 cup oat milk (Barista Edition recommended)
  • Ice cubes (for shaking and serving)
  • Optional: Vanilla extract
  • Optional: Cinnamon or nutmeg for spiced variation

Instructions

  1. Brew 1/2 cup (120 ml) of very strong dark roast coffee using half the usual amount of water to create a concentrate. Let it cool slightly.
  2. Pour the hot coffee into a cocktail shaker and add 1-2 tablespoons of brown sugar. Stir briefly to help dissolve the sugar.
  3. Fill the shaker about 3/4 full with ice cubes.
  4. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the mixture is chilled and frothy.
  5. Fill a highball glass with fresh ice cubes.
  6. Strain the shaken espresso mixture over the ice in the glass.
  7. Slowly pour the oat milk over the back of a spoon or directly into the glass to create a layered effect.
  8. Gently stir before drinking and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use fresh coffee and shake vigorously to create a velvety foam. If the sugar doesn’t dissolve fully, shake a bit longer. You can make a concentrate ahead of time by brewing strong coffee and dissolving the sugar, storing it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Add fresh ice and oat milk when ready to serve.
