A fun, interactive, and easy-to-make Halloween snack board featuring savory pretzel ‘dirt’, sharp cheddar cheese, and candy corn tombstones. No baking required, this crowd-pleaser is perfect for parties and takes under 15 minutes to assemble.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups pretzel rods or twists, broken into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons dark cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 pinch flaky sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon butter or olive oil
  • 1.5 to 2 cups candy corn
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, cubed
  • Saltine or square crackers
  • Gummy worms (optional)
  • Black olives or figs, sliced (optional)
  • White chocolate melts or marshmallows (optional, for standing tombstones)

Instructions

  1. Break pretzel rods or twists into small, irregular, bite-sized pieces and place them in a medium bowl.
  2. In a small separate bowl, mix the dark cocoa powder with a pinch of salt.
  3. Melt butter slightly or drizzle olive oil over the pretzels, then sprinkle the cocoa mixture over them.
  4. Toss everything together gently until the pretzels are evenly coated and look dark and earthy.
  5. Spread the pretzel mixture out on a plate to cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Cube the sharp cheddar cheese into 1-inch uniform pieces.
  7. Arrange crackers on the side of the board or break them into smaller pieces to scatter around.
  8. If using white chocolate melts, melt them in 30-second intervals and dip the bottom of candy corn pieces to create standing tombstones on parchment paper. Alternatively, pile candy corn in mounds.
  9. Spread the pretzel dirt across the charcuterie board in large patches.
  10. Place the tombstones into the pretzel dirt, pressing them in slightly so they stand up.
  11. Place the cheese cubes around the board, piling them like small hills or scattering them individually.
  12. Add crackers, gummy worms (tucked into the dirt), and other accents like olives or figs.
  13. Scatter extra candy corn pieces loosely around the board and sprinkle a tiny bit of extra salt on the pretzel dirt for visual contrast.

Notes

Do not overmix the pretzel dirt to avoid crushing pretzels into powder. Balance the cocoa powder to avoid bitterness. Assemble the board just before serving to keep cheese fresh and pretzels crunchy. For dietary restrictions, use gluten-free pretzels and dairy-free cheese alternatives.
