These spooky pretzel rods are dipped in white chocolate, topped with slivered almond fingernails, and finished with a dab of red gel for a bloody cuticle. They’re a quick, fun, and creepy Halloween treat that’s perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 standard bag (about 12-16) pretzel rods
  • 1 ½ cups (8 ounces) white chocolate melting wafers
  • ½ cup slivered almonds
  • 1 small tube red gel icing
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.
  2. Place white chocolate melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each burst, until mostly melted (about 1.5 to 2 minutes total). Stir until smooth. If too thick, stir in ½ teaspoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening.
  3. Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip the other end into the melted white chocolate, rotating to coat about two-thirds of the rod. Let excess drip back into the bowl.
  4. Lay the dipped pretzel rod onto the prepared baking sheet. Gently press it down so it lies flat. Repeat with remaining pretzels, leaving space between each.
  5. While the chocolate is still wet, press a slivered almond into the chocolate at the tip of the pretzel rod, pointed end extending beyond the pretzel like a fingernail. Repeat for all pretzels.
  6. Using a toothpick or the tip of the piping bag, draw a thin line of red gel icing at the base of each almond to create a ‘bloody cuticle.’
  7. Optional: Add tiny red lines or veins on the white chocolate part using a toothpick, or sprinkle with black sanding sugar.
  8. Let the pretzel rods set at room temperature for 30 to 45 minutes until the chocolate is firm and shiny.
  9. Gently peel the set pretzel rods off the parchment paper. Trim any excess chocolate if desired.

Notes

Use good-quality white chocolate melting wafers, not chips, for a smooth coating. Do not refrigerate to set, as it can cause the chocolate to bloom. Work in small batches to keep the chocolate at the right temperature. The almond nail should be angled slightly upward for a realistic look.
